COURSE DESIGN
This two day course will include case presentations, interactive lectures with question-and-answer periods, panel discussions, and the utilization of interactive technology (ARS).

AUDIENCE
This conference is intended for multidisciplinary members of the bariatric surgery and weight management team, including bariatric surgeons, nurses, nurse coordinators, program managers, dieticians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and psychologists. The material will also be valuable for primary care providers, insurance medical directors, insurance case managers, and hospital administrators.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Following completion of this activity, learners should be better able to:

  • Identify inclusion/exclusion criteria for bariatric patient selection
  • Discuss how the Essential Health Benefit will impact the future of bariatric surgery
  • Identify tools that will impact the patient in dealing with stress eating
  • Describe the importance of implementing a healing environment for bariatric team members and patients
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of bariatric emergencies for the general surgeon and bariatric team members
  • Identify the signs of addiction in the treatment of obesity
  • Describe treatment therapies for reflux in the obese patient
  • Discover eating behavior and the brain’s pleasure center: Redirecting the drive to eat
  • Review foregut surgical options in the obese and post bariatric patient

The University of Minnesota is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Minnesota designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 15.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Nurses Credentialing Center
The University of Minnesota School of Nursing, Office of Practice, Partnerships, and Professional Development, is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Registration fees include continental breakfast, morning/afternoon breaks and course materials. Lunch will be on your own both days.

Special needs such as dietary restrictions, lactation room, etc. should be indicated in advance; requests cannot always be honored on site.

CANCELLATION POLICY
In the event you need to cancel your registration, the registration fee, less a $50 administrative fee, will be refunded if you notify us by 4:30 p.m. Central Time on May 13, 2015. No refunds will be made after this date.
